The session was great. Very good introduction and all the time observing us professionally and giving exactly the right hints. Easy for him as he constructed the route.
Tony and his wife were extremely sympathic so that we also shared lunch, drinks and stories later. A day that we will not forget and hope to repeat in future.
Thanks a lot!

As an addict of adventure in far-flung and obscure places, the Covid-19 pandemic has seriously clipped my wings. Unable to travel abroad, I decided instead to look local and use... read more the opportunity to explore my own country. In my search for interesting trips to cool places, I was lucky enough to find Tony Lourens of Blue Mountain Adventures to provide what I was looking for.
I have now done three wonderful trips with Tony: a bespoke weekend of hiking and climbing in his charming home town of Montagu, a five-day hiking, camping and climbing trip to the very special Cederberg and a three-day trip to climb Towerkop, a very distinctive cleft rock tower with an interesting history near Ladismith, all in different corners of the Western Cape.
Each of these adventures was organised with meticulous care and with special attention to safety, particularly in relation to the rock climbing aspects. While we brought along our own breakfasts, lunches and snacks, Tony’s dinners were outstanding. Notwithstanding the mixed abilities and experience of his client groups, he managed to ensure that everyone achieved their objectives while having a thoroughly enjoyable time.
While Tony is a seasoned guide and rock climbing expert, it is his passion for the outdoors and his extensive knowledge of South Africa’s mountain ranges and climbing hubs that sets him apart. I look forward to many more adventures with him.

Tony is a very passionate and experienced mountain guide with an impressive knowledge of the mountains of South Africa, in particular those of the Western Cape. This doesn't come unexpected being Tony the author of bestselling guidebooks for hiking, scrambling and climbing in different mountains ranges in South Africa.
He was very professional whenever he guided us on rock climbs on the steep sandstone of Table Mountains and the Cedeberg or on the slabby granite of Paarl Rocks, with safety always as top priority. Beside being a great mountain guide, Tony has a friendly and welcoming attitude, sense of humor and he always likes to share stories and anecdotes on the mountaineering history of South Africa. There was no time when we didn't enjoy together a cup of tea at the base of the crags or a cold beer at the end of a long day on the hill. And if you have a chance to go camping with Tony and his lovely wife Patsy during the weekend or for a longer vacation, you will also discover how good he is at making the braai (barbecue) and how delicious is Patsy's potjie (traditional stew slow-cooked in a cast-iron three-legged pot over the coals of a fire).
If you love living the mountains in any form and you plan to visit South Africa, I promise you have no better choice than contact Tony and ask him to guide you around to discover the beauties his country has to offer. You won't be disappointed !
