Tony Lourens has been involved in climbing and mountaineering for over 40 years and has climbed, trekked and guided extensively in many countries around the world. He is passionate about all things climbing and loves to explore new places and climb in as many different areas as possible. Tony has been a guide and instructor in mountaineering, climbing and trekking since 1992 and has guided numerous nationalities from around the world, as well as many locals, and enjoys a very high success rate and a 100% safety record.

Further, Tony has been involved in publishing for nearly 20 years and has written and published a number of climbing and walking/scrambling guidebooks to many areas in the Western Cape, the Drakensberg and Namibia, and also authored The Complete Climbing Manual, which sold world wide in five different languages. He is also the publisher and editor of SA Mountain Magazine, South Africa’s only dedicated mountaineering and climbing magazine.

He has been instrumental in the development of many new climbing routes in Montagu, and now resides permanently in Montagu with his wife, Patsy.

					  Recently did a trip with Tony and Blue Mountain Adventures to Towerkop in the Klein Swartberg  - a challenging hike but the rewards were well worth it - stunning... read more views, 2 nights in Nel's Cave and some climbing/scrambling to the summit (2 197m).  The trip was well organised and lots of fun.  As a novice climber, I appreciated Tony’s experience, clear instructions and patience!  Definitely looking forward to the next trip with Blue Mountain Adventures!

					  We booked the guided climbing session with Tony one day before and the first impression was very positive. He seemed definitely knowing what he does and showed spontaneity and flexibility.... read more 

The session was great. Very good introduction and all the time observing us professionally and giving exactly the right hints. Easy for him as he constructed the route.

Tony and his wife were extremely sympathic so that we also shared lunch,drinks and stories later. A day that we will not forget and hope to repeat in future.

					  I had Tony Lourens of Blue Mountain adventures organize hiking days out for me, my husband and my friends in the Cape Peninsula, Table Mountain, Cederberg and Montagu area over... read more the last three years. He knows the region very well and it has always been a great fun hiking with him. He introduced me to beautiful hidden spots and new trails. Tony always put safety first, helping me every time I needed encouragement or support in difficult passages. Thanks Tony!
